i have to literally wake him up to feed. he eats and after 20-30 mins starts feeling sleepy again and insists on being put to bed, and i have to wake him up after 3-4 hrs again for the next feeding time. where is the time for any activity?
how is the experience with other parents? how many hrs does your baby sleep and in how many breaks?

If he's up when other babies would normally be sleeping the behavior you describe may not be usual but may not be anything to worry about.

If he's sleeping all night, though, and then sleeping as you say he is; that is pretty unusual and something you should ask the pediatrician about. Of course, there could be the chance he's got himself awake during the night when you don't know about it.

An eight-month-old baby usually sleeps through the night, gets up early in the morning, stays up for a few hours, may have a nap for an hour or two (may not), has a lunchtime, may play for a little while after lunchtime, usually will have an early afternoon nap. (The routine between any morning nap and/or early afternoon nap varies from baby to baby/mother to mother, obviously.)

The baby will probably stay up through the later half of the afternoon, dinner, and a little after; and then goes to bed on the early side. Of course, if a baby got up early and didn't have a morning nap he'd likely have one, big, nap in the afternoon (which could look like sleeping all day in a way).

It may be nothing more than your baby having his own rhythms or maybe being a baby who needs to sleep a little more than many babies do, but it is something you should talk to the doctor about. Maybe the doctor can reassure you and/or give you tips about getting the baby on a schedule that seems more usual.

(I don't know how often you check on him through the night, but a baby who is a "good sleeper" is also likely to be a baby who will lay in the crib and entertain himself during the night if he wakes up; so consider that he's doing that - pulling all-nighters all by his little self. That could explain the big sleeping during the day.)

Sounds like he may need a visit to the Dr. Does he do this everyday ? or just today ? it might a growth spurt.
Is he sleeping well at night ? Is the house too warm making him sleepy ? His iron levels may be low....so many things, only a DR will be able to tell you for sure.

at 8 months old they should be very active. take him to you pediatrician and have him checked. my son just turned one and has only been taking one 3-4 hour nap a day after lunch. usually from 1-4 and till 5 if he is sick. good luck with him.

As long as his temperature is normal and he seems otherwise okay, I would say he is having a growth spurt. Babies and children sleep more when this happens. Just keep an eye on him and offer him healthy foods with good nutritional value.
