hi....
i have tried a ton of products for minimizing pores and smoother and more radiant skin.
i found that clinique is ok in price, but it really isn't the best in skin care...
it's better to go for lines that doctors endorse such as lancome and philosophy.
lancome has an entire line devoted to people with oily skin and/or large pores called PURE FOCUS.... in my opinion one of the best out there and not too expensive :)
they have a pore minimizing scrub, toner, face wash, moisturizer, and gel t-zone matifier. you wont need all of these... the most important to start with would be the scrub, toner, and moisturizer.
you should really also consider a glycolic acid peel kit from them, like their RESURFACE peel... its expensive but it's professional strength and works for smoother skin the very first time you use it. (for use once a week- twice a week, tops). its for radiance, smoothness, and evening out the skin tone and texture. it also helps your skincells regenerate to produce newer, more healthy ones faster. EACH application of this peel at the dermatologist's office runs about $250 a pop. this kit says it contains at least 8 uses, and it's under $150. i have used my kit over 10 times already (i have had it for over 6 months) and i still have more glycolic acid left... at least for 4 or 5 more uses. so its well worth the money.
Last thing: Philosophy has a makeup base that can give you a cosmetic difference (not long term but something that will fill in the pores)... its called "the Present" and it comes in a big tube (feels like thick lotion but dries to a lighter feel) and you use it under your foundation/makeup to hide pores and wrinkles too. it works well, i love it. it's also for all skintypes. i use it for all my models before photoshoots and for my brides too. (it keeps your makeup on smoother and longer lasting.)
I hope this helps a little...
good luck with the search :)

You can't actually make your pores smaller or close them. Products like the Clinique stuff you were using are to make them appear smaller. To get rid of black heads, exfoliate 3 times a week and use a salicylic acid product (Clinique sells one).
