I think it's awesome. Maybe we can get out of this war.

Firstly, it is not yet safe to declare a victory in both Houses of Congress for the Democratic Party.

Secondly, I do think that will be the reality tomorrow morning.

Thirdly, I feel that the best thing about this is that there is tangible proof of a mandate from a majority of Americans that the past few years have been mistake after mistake by the current political leadership. While my own personally feelings about the matter would lead to making much stronger statements and all executive administrations make some mistakes, we have spent two many years with a leader that is increasingly disconnected from the population.

Fourthly, the change of power in political parties will likely give impetus to stronger accountability from the President. We have just endured 6 years of having obstinate personal agendas being placed ahead of the needs of the population of this country.

I don't think the Dems will take the Senate, but they've definitely taken control of the House. And yes, that's a good thing. It brings some much needed checks and balances to our federal government, because of the fact of the matter is that Bush has been doing just about whatever he wants, and our Congress has just been looking away. That's inexcusable, and it's indicative of how bad things are in our country that we've become so divided by partisan lines.

I want to see more compromise. I want to see Democrats and Republicans working together for the betterment of the country, not to simply advance their own skewed agendas and letting the president get away with murder while ignoring the voices of their peers who also represent citizens of this country.

Seriously, people. It's time to put an end to this partisan hatred. It's not healthy, and it doesn't do our country any good. Stop hating someone simply because of his or her party affiliation. Take a moment to actually listen to where he or she stands on particular issues: Not all Dems and not all Republicans are created equal!

Well this will stop the Rubber stamp Congress. Remember when Bush said he was a uniter not a divider. Now is his chance to prove it. We will still be in the war for a while but now with some actual Iraqi vets in there the conditions should be better for the soldiers and maybe we can put some pressure on the Iraqi's to start doing some of their own heavy lifting. Remember when they said last year that the Iraqi;s would be ready to take over now. And now they just announced that it will be 12-18 more months before the Iraqi can take over.

Getting out of the war won't be that easy. If we leave now, we'll leave Iraq in a state of anarchy. Right now, you pretty much have the Sunnis, Shiites, and terrorist cells all killing each other out of spite and fighting for power. The Iraqi police are pretty much worthless because 70% of them have allegiance to either the Sunnis or the Shiites and the rest are too scared to do anything. If we leave now, it will be devastating to that country. I'm staunchly against this war, but now that we're in it, we need to finish the job. If we leave now, it will only make things worse.

Other than that, I'm glad the democrats are in control of congress. Maybe we can get a push for equal rights now instead of an oppressive Christian regime.

Don't count the Senate yet; there is a 48 seat tie and four state to determine, and the key state will be Virginia.

It appears MT is Blue, MO and TN Red, which gives us 50-49.

VA is a gap of 10K votes, but pointing Red. Your recount will be there

It's gonna be fun watching them with the targets painted on THEIR backs now. Having little on offer and remarkably weak leadership I just hope they can sound coherent instead of like Democrats.

"Maybe we can get out of this war."?

You mean starting (maybe) in two years and two months, right? You may not have noticed but Presidents decide in which wars we will or will not be engaged and Congress goes along for the ride - whether they like it or not.

I love how republicans claim that democrats have no exit strategy... as if they were somehow leading by example.

I propose this exit strategy: Start phasing out troops based on voting records, bring troops (like my brother) who have voted against GWB every chance they could home, and replace them with a randomly drawn republican from tonights polling records.. "you won the together forward into a quagmire lottery! here's your peashooter and a cardboard helmet! we'll make sure someone looks after you farm for ya' Go get em granny!"
