a basic project is to construct a basic shape like an elephant head from a balloon, tape and heavy stock paper. In bowl mix the old fashioned blue starch, some Elmer's glue and a little water, then as you work add 1 inch strips of newspaper that you then cover the elephant head form all over cross crossed and in several layers-each drying before another is applied. Keep the edges of the news paper flat so don't use long strips maybe about 6" long depending on the size of your project. when it's dry apply paint and decorate, finish off with a clear sealer-done

The easier method is to use wall-paper glue from the hardware store. Make it up according to the instructions in a bucket. Then tear news paper into strips - about 2cm wide. But this depends on how big a thing you want to make. Dampen the news paper then put some into the glue. Now you can take out strip after strip and do your thing with it! If you are making thin things, they should dry over night. If you plan to make really big, heavy sculptures then work in layers and try to get a lot of the glue off before you add a strip, otherwise it becomes too messy.
It's great fun. Once you have the knack try using thin kite paper to make translucent objects!
