I only know it as the theme song of the movie, New York,New York (the one starring Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro....

If you mean the song made popular by Frank Sinatra, it's not from a musical. It's from a Martin Scorsese film of the same name. Liza Minnelli performs it on the movie soundtrack.

....and here's the thing. The song was written for Liza Minelli, for the movie "New York, New York", but everybody thinks it's a Sinatra song.
