You don't take a test until you miss your period. If you take one too early, and you are pregnant it will say negative because there is not enough hcg (pregnancy hormone) in your urine to show positive. Five days is not enough time to tell. Here is the low down on what happens:

Roughly two weeks before your expected period, you release an egg. You have to have sex up to five days BEFORE you ovulate to get pregnant (sperm live up to five days). After you ovulate, it is too late. The egg is looking for sperm waiting in the fallopian tube. If there is no sperm waiting within the 24 hour life span of the egg, it will die. If there is sperm, it is likely that fertilization occurred and the fertilized egg takes about a week to travel and implant into the uterus (week 3). It takes about a week for the implanted egg to produce ENOUGH hcg to show up in a home pregnancy test (week 4). Hcg begins to release from the zygote about three days after implantation which is why blood tests can detect a positive earlier than urine tests. When there is enough hcg produced by the zygote in the blood, it begins to synthesize in the urine; thereby showing a positive home pregnancy test by week four. Take my word, I am a fertility expert!

5 days? yes you could be pregnant but the egg is still being fertilized! wait a few weeks at least! someone is anxious now, aren't we? i don't even think a blood test would give a positive result 5 days after having sex. If I were you I would wait 3 weeks, then go get a test. I always buy the ones they sell in the dollar store. It's quite tricky to figure out how to use them without screwin up the test, but they were accurate. Both of my children were tested using dollar store tests bought at a Save A Lot about a week before my period was due.

Go to a pharmacist or Wal-Mart and see what test will give you the earliest results. The test are expensive and even if you take it and it shows negative you may have taken it too soon. Read the instructions and follow the time guide on them.

It's too soon for a test to detect anything yet.

Wait until you're a week late, if you actually do miss your period.

Then get your butt to the doctor or family planning clinic and get tested for STDs. Get a birth control prescription and a sack of condoms while you're there.
