Moral relativisim is the idea that good/bad or right and wrong aren't absolute but are relative to the situation. The example often sighted is if a person has a heart condition asks you about a relative that you know has been killed should you lie and not tell them about it, or should you tell the truth and take a chance of causing this person to have a heart attack. The point being it may not always be wrong to lie.

An example of how our society has adopted this philosophy is stealing. It is wrong to take what belongs to someone else, unless the government takes it from them and gives it to you, as in welfare.

It means that what one sees as the right thing is based solely on perspective. lets use the latest DC scandals as examples...

In the 1980's Democrat Gerry Studds, was discovered to be engaged in a physical sexual affair with a 17 year old male, and he is held as a great example, while now Foley a Republican was caught having suggestive on line contact with teen boys, and he has been demonized by many of the same Democrats who cheered for Studds.

Or the Church leader who was caught buying meth and having gay sex, as his faith states both of those are bad, but he was able to justify them to himself and engage in those actions.

does that help?
