If you are a part of Mensa would that influence colleges into choosing you more readily or would they be unaware of it? My SAT score is kind of low, but my IQ is nice (being that I was upset and rushing through it when i took the test). Would saying I am in Mensa even out a bad SAT score?

and out of curiosity what is the IQ you need now to get in?

well i'm a junior and im planning ahead.
My SAT is 1740.
My GPA *** is 3.28 (I fooled around freshman year). 3.6 GPA quarterly.
My IQ is 126, but that was on the internet, I plan to take the Mensa next summer seriously.
I take AP world history and qualify for most other AP courses other than english.
I have been a 2 year veteran of the school play, and cross country team.
I have over 100 hours of community service and plan to have over 200 by the time I send my applications in.
I also work at an after school care program everyday.

It varies depending on the test you take... different methods produce different scores

You need to be in the top 2%, I believe.

edit: Hey UCLA... I am MENSA material (not in it though), and only got an SAT of 1200...

I was tested freshman year because I was failing English and Latin. In addition to not doing my homework, not paying attention and not being able to see the board they found the biggest reason why I wasn't doing well in school: I have a learning disability. They said I should've been getting straight As in my sleep and that I am "Mensa material" but wouldn't give me my score. In 3rd grade, my parents tested me and I came in at 138.

Once I got put on ritalin, I was able to get grades in the 3.0-3.4 range without doing homework, paying attention, or seeing the board (I finally got glasses after I finished college... the damn DMV made me).

Just being Mensa material doesn't mean you're destined to an Ivy League education and a rich lifestyle. You have to work at it to be successful...

Saying that you are a Mensa member (Are you? You don't say.) will not influence colleges with regard to whether they accept you.

There is plenty of time left before next year, you should consider taking the SAT again if you feel that your score is not representative of your actual abilities.

Schools don't use just SAT scores, they also look at your grades and your extracurricular activites. If you have excellent grades but a poor SAT score, colleges will take that into account.
