I live in the Pacific North West in Portland Oregon. I really like it here, the climate is really temperate, not a lot of snow, or really cold weather, and not a lot of really hot summers. It's also really lush here and beautiful. It also makes for great outdoor activites, like taking hikes by the waterfalls, ski trips on mt hood, fishing in the surrounding rivers. It's about 2.5 to 3 hours to the coast line, and very close to the washington boarder.
Many people who work in oregon live in washington for a more rual setting with less taxes.
there are also more rual areas with easy access to the city in Portland that help ease boyfriends into a more urban enviroment.
A few things should be warned about Portland as well though, we are known as the "progressive" city by most of the usa for the libral views and ways of running government. We also have current problems with school funding, and crowding in the class rooms, that you should know about as a teacher, and a fairly high income tax. Although the upside is there is no sales tax and I LOVE that!
All in all Oregon has it's flaws like every other state, but I love it here for the weather! It's nice when the worst you have to deal with is rain.

i live in san diego, its a great place to live but very expensive. My fiance just finished the credntial program, and is finding steady work as a substitute. She has also had a few job offers but wants to find work at a school near to our home. San diego is great cause we have sunshine all year long, (at least most of the year) less traffic than Los Angeles, 2 hours from snow (big bear) and west coast. Since your boy friend is a Red neck there are areas of san diego where he might feel totally comfy. Santee & Lakeside are not Redneck but deffinetly a little country/western. please ask me anything about San Diego.

Newfoundland, Canada. You get the snow, but also beautiful weather and great people. There is no better place on earth. It will be worth your while to research and come for a visit. My aunt just left the states after 25 years teaching. I always sent items to her school kids and there are a multitude of teaching positions. If you are seriously interested, contact me and I will set you up with the proper connections. Newfoundland is the right place to be and a great place to raise children. Rednecks are also welcome.
