How bout progressive (or "prog"). It was definitely prog rock with Genesis and his solo stuff has a similar vibe.

Peter gabriel is the one of the genius singer, song writer and producer that still live in this planet. If we shoot back to his old times music career than we will talk about Genesis, old time genesis music is really amazing, they produce such a brilliant music, a very amazing progressive rock music i ever heard beside Yes, pink floyd etc. And the man behind this old time genesis is Peter gabriel, but than after he left the band, the band going to be so poppy.
But then peter gabriel do the solo, and still he never left his amazing skill in his music, and during his first solo album until now, we really difficult to classify his style of music, cause very album figure many different style of music, but if we draw a line than his music is progressive folk rock music.
