I mean, it's not every single American's fault that Bush is our President, yet when I visited England this year a man said to me that we were "ruining the world". I didnt do anything! (this of course is coming from a Liberal Californian). It has made me, in turn, become defensive. (Which the man of course took as stubborness, which i'm not, for I am entitled to defend my country, right?)
I'm just sick of generalizations and stereotypes from other countries. I want to know why they hate Americans.

Many people are ignorant all over the world......people don't like Americans simply because they do not understand them.
America is a new country compared to many others....they do not understand the concept of democracy or what used to be freedom (freedom of speech, freedom to make a living, freedom to think and be heard)....people generally hate what they don't understand. So they see a bunch of ignorant Americans on vacation every now and then......so that's the rest of us? Many of your countries made a bundle on tourism from the Americans which has helped your economy tremendously over the years, many of you have gotten a good education in America, many of you have earned a living in America and have succeeded in sending funds home for the survival of your families.
How many times have our military helped the French and the English in past wars? Do people really think we're all rich and have the life over here? We work hard and pay taxes and sacrifice alot for our children. We all don't live what you call "The American Dream" either.
It is typical though that the whole world would go against the one nation who has helped so many. THink about it.

Well I have done a lot of travelling (I am Canadian). I have been mistaken for American more than once and trust me it wasn't pleasant. I have met many Americans that are great people and I stick up for them when I am abroad.... but sometimes and more often with Americans I think.. some come along that compare everything to the States.. oh this is better in the Us. Oh I wish there was a Mcdonalds.. complain moan winge winge... That tends to piss people off.. Also I notice that a majority of young Americans when on holiday, treat the city or new country like it is their waste basket. I have seen a group of American kids piss on a couch and tear a place apart.. just cause they were on holiday in Australia.
But yes.. there are really cool Americans out there.... It is the few jerks that are ruining it for everyone.... (politicians and business people included)

They hate us because we have the most power and are a wealthy nation. They are simply wishing they have what we have. Sort of how people hate/dislike the wealthier people for having so much money yet there are others below them that hardly have food. Actually, it is exactly like that. We have all this money and the third world countries don't even have enough to feed their people. (Although we have people who don't have enough money to buy food, we technically have the country has the money to feed them).

Do people in other countries REALLY hate Americans? I don't think most of them do because most of them don't know a thing about real Americans - they only know what they are told, and - many times - they are told lies by groups who have a vested interest in making them hate Americans.

Just as we have fundamentalist Islam coming out of the Middle East, we have fundamentalist Christianity coming out America. It is scary how religious fundamentalism is influencing politics in so many countries.

did you ever have someone behind you say no man it goes that way,,or no way i know how, well i,m in canada but i have travelled the world ,and i can tell you ,,you are smart educated sometimes ingenious all good in the states. but in other other countries it,s considered an insult for some outsider to say he know,s better ,,even if you now all the answers it does,nt mean we want you to tell us, and to tell to many answers is like back seat driving yes your there but everyone else in the car wishes you were not..

Because you are arrogant and ignorant. You have a terrible tendancy to disregard everything else in the pursuit of your short term goals. You kill others without concern because you know nothing of them and thus have no empathy for them. The US may well be more dangerous to the world than North Korea, Iran and Russia combined. In both gulf wars the most dangerous enemy of the British was the US military, in both cases they were so keen to kill that they didn't bother identifying their targets, that goes for the airforce and the army.
Anyway, the world doesn't hate Americans, they do look down on them though. In the end it's not your fault that your education system and your news services do nothing to inform you.
Personally I like most Americans, but then I like most Russians, Indians, Chinese and Israelis too. But I don't trust America to do the right thing by humanity.

well, we're talking about the majority of americans here, not everyone. it's true that americans have been trying to take over the world, they worship the dollar, and everything here is so different (in a negative way, if i may add) then from everywhere else in the world. people here have too much sex, too much drugs, the crime rates are high, the dressing is weird, and unintelligent, and the education is WAY low. that's why. i live here, and i still agree with the other countries cuz i wasn't born here. you should go live somewhere else and then you might understand why everyone is hating on america. cuz compared to other countries in the world, america is...well, not well thought of.

When I was a kid, I used to hate the actress Sally Fields even when she won back to back oscars, Then I grew up and knew that it was NOT hate it was the o9ld green eyed monstor jealousy. It is the same thing with hatred of aMERICA, THE GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD WHERE anyone and everyone who wants tp can live well.

Because america is one of the many countries that have had the most problems in wars. also, we can't stay out of other peoples business. and to contribute to that, we as a nation cannot come together and get along as one and agree ourselves. gay marriage, racism, financial status, war, etc.
