It is not possible to protect ideas but rather the representation of that idea.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

I posted some relevant links in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Search the web for the CANADIAN Patent Office. Ideas cannot be patented. Ideas are copyrighted. Different things. Make sure you know which one you need for whatever you are doing. Go to the CANADIAN website for CANADIAN copyright and patent information. Search the web for the CANADIAN Copyright Office.

You were given a lot of information for the USA, please DISREGARD any info based on what is necessary in the USA.

Hi ! If you have an original idea and you want to protect it, do this immediately.
Write yourself a letter in which you completely describe your idea. Enclose this letter in a large brown envelope and mail it to yourself through the regular mail delivery system as a registered letter of which you will have to sign for to recieve it from your postman. Do not open this letter as it is bonded proof of your idea.
Next find a patening agent for a patent office and he will explain to you the necessary steps that you must follow to patent your idea. In the meantime, keep your registered letter you sent yourself, locked up in a tightly secured place. it is your only proof that you can use in any court of law to prove it is your idea nad not something a crooked patent agent cooked up. remember this, your registered letter to yourself of your idea is post marked and dated by a Government Postal office and it provides you legal proof of it being your idea. Only allow a judge in a court of law to open it-NO ONE ELSE!
