I have had a 40 day cycle before and I have had 21 day cycles before. It happens for various reasons, including stress. It is within normal range.

28 days is an average, not the "norm." I have never met a single person with a perfect 28 day cycle every month. Having a 40 day cycle just means that you had a delayed ovulation. Nothing to worry about!

I have heard of a 40 day cycle. My mother would miss a whole month, then be back on fine, then a whole month again, makeing it about 60 days each cycle... Every women is different, as her hormones are too... if you want a more regular commen 28 day cycle, ask your doc for birth control to help regulater it. you should see it down to 28 days after about 3 months of being on it... and stay on it for a few more months, then try off of it and see how irregular they get. It is normal, and i do not see any problems with having a regular 40 day cycle, as long as it is every 40 days. Good luck and rememebr your doc is your friend, and they have heard it all(well most of it anyways)

The typical cycle lasts 21-35 days so 40 is above average but still normal. If every cycle is consistantly 40 days then there probably isn't anything to worry about. If you typically have much shorter cycles and then have a 40 day cycle then most likely ovulation was delayed and that in turn delayed menses.

I think that is normal as long is it is about the same each month. I have a 34 day cycle. If you were having a different amount of days in between each cycle, then I would see a doctor just to check if you are just irregular. Some women just don't have a regular cycle at all. They can give you birth control to make it more regular if you want.

it's unusual but possible. 28 days is just the average that people use. ur cycle can be longer or shorter than 28 days.

my cycle became shorter (28 to 29 days) and more regular when i started exercising regularly. before than it used to vary month to month from 28 days to 35 days.

i think it's a combination of genetics, hormones and lifestyle.

just remember that u ovulate 14 days before ur next period, not on day 14 of ur cycle. so if u have a 40 day cycle, u would ovulate (and hence be more likely to fall pregnant) around day 26 of ur cycle. if ur irregular (i.e. 40 days one month and 35 the next) and trying this method to fall pregnant (or not!), it probably won't work - try using the method where u use a thermometer first thing in the morning to detect an increase in temperature (meaning ur ovulating)

I don't know how old you are, but when I was in my teens I had a long cycle as well. It was 40 to 45 days. Sometimes it didn't come at all. I wasn't sexually active, so it wasn't pregnancy. The doctor said I was fine. I'm a lot older now and my cycle is anywhere from 28 to 35 days. The only thing you can do for that is take birth control pills to regulate your cycle. It worked for me, but the hormones in them make my breasts very sore. I hear that they make low-hormone birth control now. I've not tried it. I would rather not bother with pills at all.

Usually it's 28-35 I think, I've been PG before and wasn't really paying attention to how long my cycles were. It is possible JUST AS ANYTHING IS..... You should consider your cycles irregular. 40 days is almost damn near 1/2 months. It would be hard to track ovulation.... sometimes I get my Period a day early or two days but it fluxuates...every woman is different...if your trying to conceive see a doctor.

Supposedly it's possible. If you look at the ovulation calculators and stuff...I think that the highest amount of days in a cycle is 40. I'm not sure of a medical reasoning for this though. When in doubt, try google!

Yes - In fact I am also 21 and have a 40 day cycle. I was always worried about it and thought something was wrong, but I talked to a nurse and she said that it's completely normal.....we're just luckier than most! :)
