Here in ohio we are voting to band smoking or to allow it in bars, bowling alleys, bingo halls ect.

But right now *as of 11pm* the issue to band it is passing. Yes smoking is bad but it shouldn't be up to the government to take it away. whats next....saying how many beers you can have? How much a certain food you can have? Lottery you can buy?

*this is kinda off note* but it will band smoking in factories also.

Even though they have separate rooms...i bet it will still not be allowed.

*don't wanna be in it...sit in the non-smokers room*

The smoking ban went into effect here in Colorado July 1. You can no longer smoke in a bar, restaurant, or any business. Friends of mine who are waitresses have seen a huge cut in their income--seems non-smokers don't tip nearly as well as smokers did. Here in the small town I live in, three bars and two restaurants have gone out of business; the owners have said it is because of the smoking ban.

As a former smoker, it doesn't matter to me personally. But, I don't like it any time we lose another little bit of freedom. Before, it was up to the public to decide--if you don't like smoke, don't go to establishments that don't clean the air with equipment. The cash register should be the way things like this are decided, not the government.

I agree.... I also live her in Ohio.....the play that I work has a huge smoke eater....we have alot of non smokers that come in ( coffee shop)......us smokers out number the non smokers but they never complain about it because they feel the same that the non smoking issue should be left up to the owner. A friend that is a truck driver was telling me that when he was out west making a run he had his dog with him....windows rolled up with the ac on while driving down the road....somebody in a car seen him smoking and called the highway patrol about it...he was given a ticket...charge was cruelty to an animal cause the windows were up while he was smoking....now thats a load of bs

Think of it this way:

We voted for the government.
The government is acting on what the majority of people want, ban smoking in public places.
They're having a public vote (kinda like making sure) that the people really want this.

The people who voted for the government include business owners...so they do get a say in the public vote.

Those other things can be banned if there are enough people making noise and moving to ban those things too...it's not just the government.

Anytime that you allow a government to start regulating your behavior, you are one step closer to creating a totalitarian regime. Sadly enough, this is one of the areas that the bunny huggers go after. They passed a smoking ban in Minneapolis and in Saint Paul, and seriously damaged the bar and restaurant business because of it. There are already restaurants and bars that ban smoking as a matter of business. If you don't like smoke, don't go where people are smoking. Yes you have a right to go there, but you don't have a right to tell me what I can and can't do. On top of that, secondhand smoke is bullshit. Statistically speaking, it does not kill people. Its a myth, folks. If it was that dangerous they would ban it outright.

In Baton Rouge (Louisiana) smoking was banned last year in restaurants (unless they sell alcohol). I don't smoke, but I agree, it should be up the the business owner if smoking is allowed or not.

Sounds like the brown eyed girl has yellow teeth...

somking ruins everything in the area it is done in including the people in it. The ban is a good thing. Here in FL we have it and I feel like things are much better without all the smokers.

Of course it should. If they want cigarettes gone, they should ban the corporations making them and make it an illegal substance. Until then, it's on the owner's right to decide what they want to do in their own private property established.

well it's the people who are voting, isn't it?

i personally don't want to work for a business that allows smoking because it gets my allergies all worked up and makes my clothes smell, when i'm not even the one smoking!

Why should I have to breathe someone else's second hand smoke? Why should my health ins. rates go up to cover some imbecile who has cancer or emphysema because he smoked? You have no idea of the cost everyone pays because of smoking.
