Been having this problem...
Worrying too much about what others think of me that I feel uncomfortable and talk rreally sloowww around others....trying to find words to please others.

My friends tell me that Im a very slow speaker and this is not the case with close family. With close family, I am lively, and full of confidence. Im a college student. Do you guys suggest I take anti-anxiety pills so that I become more open and be myself or what?
This is ruining my life and I can't take this anymore!!! Cuz naturally Im jus vibrant. In public, Im sooo stiff!

Oh sugar, please don't look to prescription medication for your answer. And don't let others try to point you in that direction. Your problem is not that severe!

It sounds to me like you know what the problem is; you're worried about pleasing others with your words. The next step is to figure out why it is you believe that you must please others, what it is you're afraid of saying improperly, and why it is you think you have anything to worry about. You obviously have atleast parts of you that you know are worth expressing, or you wouldn't be so open with close family!! Try adopting that attitude with others. So what if you say something wrong?

Think of it this way: are you more comfortable around people who are being themselves, even if that means they are a little ditsy, strange, or say unexpected things? Or around people that are terribly unsure of themselves...which makes it awkward to talk to them? You like people being themselves, right?! Who doesn't!

Just be yourself. People will enjoy you much more if you're being yourself, even if you say stupid or random things, than they will if you are giving off a vibe of low confidence.

Yes, anti-anxiety medicine sounds like the answer. I take them and it has helped me a lot. I take Zoloft and it takes about 6-8 weeks to get in your system so start now. Good-luck!
