I loved that movie. Unlike the movies from my childhood it shows a different view of both the white man and the Native Americans. It showed a more truthful view. I have great respect for the Native American religions and spiritual practices. The white men were the heathens and the Native Americans the heroes in this film.

As to Dunbar's transformation. I think he came to see the beauty, the respect that was in the Native American culture. It also helped that the Native Americans befriended him rather than just trying to kill him. That was the wisdom of the elders.

Dunbar spent a lot of time alone before he became friends with the Native Americans, and alone time is important for spiritual development.

Did you ask a similar Q a day or so ago?

I happen to be mixed race, Lakota (Sioux) grandmother, and I have to tell you, it was a MOVIE, ACTING, not specifically Historically spot on.

Beyond the fact that I do enjoy some of Costners efforts, and have a deep, abiding affinity with Wolves, on a very personal level, I also know that Kevin takes parts suited to his desire for length in minutes to express himself, and not always to offer a message.

With no offense meant I suggest you read historical data regarding the Native Americans, and ANY possible assimilation of ANGLOS.
