I built a new computer and everything works fine EXCEPT I am unable to install any applications I download from the internet. Files will say they are corrupt or they will freeze up. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?!

Yep, you got some bad memory. if you have more than one stick, run one at a time and see if the problem goes away.
You could also download memtest 86 and boot it from a floppy, but it sounds like you'll have to download and make the floppy on another computer. You could also get a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD, its a free computer diagnostics CD that you boot to. Will test the hard drives and stuff like that.

Your downloaded files are corrupted because there is a problem with your internet connection. I experienced the same problem while the connection was resetted.
SOLUTION:
uninstall your modem drivers, unplug your modem and again plug it then install the drivers. Now it will work.

Make sure you have enough ram. It sounds more like its a problem with your internet. When you download a setup app click save instead of run. This makes sure the whole files there. You should really upgrade from dialup to broadband.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
