I want to put those plastic play toy coins. Will it work?

No...and you'd probably go to jail for trying to rip off the U.S Mint.

Coinstar identifies coins in the same way vending machines do, by size and by metal "signature". This "signature" is what was hard to reproduce for the US mint when it switched in 1965 away from silver. A slug of the same size and metal signature as a US coin will be accepted by the machine, though it is illegal to do so.

I've found foreign coins in those stupid machines...Mexican and Hong Kong coins. But plastic's too lightweight...it might jam up the machine if they don't get spat out.
