It will fit in there, and everything you need to do the job is available. Some things to consider are: You may have to move the motor mount brackets on the frame to the other holes, This is in part due to the engine will sit too close to the firewall. The weight of the engine vs the weight of the engine that came out of there, may cause you to have to put in new springs designed to handle the extra weight. The distributor you use is important; if it had an old points style distributror, you will either have to go back that way, or change to an HEI. If you change to an HEI, you will need to change the hot wire from the ignition switch to the distributor, because the old wire would be a resistor type wire, and you need a wire that doesn't cut the voltage down. Exhaust system may be different. You don't state what engine was in the car to begin with, so that leaves a lot of doors open here. Everyone on here is assuming you took out a small block, or you got the car without an engine, and don't know what was in there. The transmission may or may not work. I have seen a lot of transmissions that have both bolt patterns, for small block and big block. I recently built a 700r4 and beefed it up to handle the horsepower, so i now enjoy the benefits of power, and fuel economy. Most people think the 700 is a dog, and stock it is, but I made many modifications to it, and have a stall converter that has lock-up wired through the brake light switch. I race the truck every week at the strip, and I have beat this transmission, but it just keeps on working real good. I did have to fabricate a different setup for the tv cable. In short; you shouldn't have many problems at all putting the big block in there. If you move the engine forward, the tail housing on the transmission will be too short, but you could use a long tail housing, and get away from having to use a different drive shaft. You will have to just work through the problems. Anytime you change to something other than what came in the vehicle, you will have typical problems to deal with. Radiator, short water pump, shroud, motor mounts, exhaust pipes, distributor, springs, transmission, speedometer, drive shaft, and kick down cable (unless you use a transmission that uses a vacuum hose and modulator) are your problems to encounter. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!!!

I dont see any reason why not, yank one out and drop in the other. Direct swap. Will need the throttle body and computer for the 454 tho. Edit: The person below me says you'll need to change the bellhousing. This is not true. BB and SB both use the same bellhousing. Plus Chevy transmissions dont have a removable bellhousing, they are integral.

It should fit right in there. It's not a hard job to do really. I want to know do you know anyone with a 1985 Cheverlot Monte Carlo SS. I've been looking for one going on for 4 months. Do you think a 454 engine will fit in a Monte Carlo SS? The reason I want it because I want to put a 454 engine in a Monte Carlo SS.
Isn't that funny. The both of us have a 454 and want to put it in a cheverlot.

It will be as simple as pulling out the old and putting in the new. The frame already has the holes drilled for the motor mounts and all the wiring is the same except for the distributor . the wire for the coil that comes off your wiring loom will now go to the hot on the HEI distributor. The shifting linkage is the same and it will mate up to your old trans and if you put in a new trans the cross member will also work. You do need to check the radiator size and make sure you have the right one

it'll bolt right up. the main things you will have to change is the engine mounts from small block to big block...and your front springs...you need big block springs. Your transmission will bolt up .
One thing about Chevy's...almost everything is interchangeable. Don't let anyone tell you different...a 350 turbo or 400 transmission is just that and bolts up to a small block or a big block.
Like I said...engine mounts are different and the front springs...because of the weight of the engine need to be changed.

They were available from the factory, so this shouldn't be a super hard task. But if you have a specific question, you might want to ask it...
