Would having a 3 party system be better, or would it it just split voters and give 1 of the 3 choices more power.

I can see this working 2 ways

1. more choices
2. drawing voters away from (lets just say) Dems, while the Reps lose verry few and are able to win by a land slide.

We already have more choices. I'm really not trying to be funny here, but are you talking about the third party from the left or the third party from the right, or some where in between? When I have a Libertarian candidate to vote for, I usually do. Do you ,or any one, support them with $$$ it takes for the PR firm to get an image that attracts voters? There are consumer parties, green parties, peace parties, etc., out the yazoo. Some of them are in the senate and the house as well as your backyard. Third, fourth, fifth, tenth, they are all there. You want 'em , support 'em. That's it !!$$$$$

These days, if you can't advertise, you aren't squat.

Alternatives are there, but the message is not.!!!!!

It would need to be a third party candidate who could draw from both Dem and Repub sides, to avoid scenario #2.

Ultimately I think it would be good for the system to develop a strong third party that appealed to the more moderate voter who is disenfranchised with the current climate of the R/D parties.

I think it would also make the candidates more accountable to the citizens, instead of to special interests, because I think voter apathy would also decrease and candidates would have to start paying attention to what the voters are saying, lest they lose their vote to the third party.
