It isn't a question, but three.
- What if people were (misspelling) so completely controlled by a powerful government (I can't understand the rest WHAT is like everyone else)? Maybe you mean that everyone would be like everyone else?
The simple answer is Communism, a failed political and economic system. The system fails because it doesn't encourage competition or development. With complete government control all resources would be divided by the government or used for their projects. There is always a limit on resources, not everyone in the US can get a cell phone, a big screen TV, and HDTV service. Some people just can’t afford it all. So some people have to do without. Who determines how much of a resources is needed for a task. If a building required all the available wood in the region then it would be sent there, but since the boss likes to make birdhouses he takes some for himself. So what happens to you when you can’t get the wood to build your doghouse, or to repair your own house?
Another big problem is that since there are always shortages in a non-perfect supply system it encourages corruption. In the above situation the boss might save some wood for you in return for sexual favors, is that fair? There are only so many doctors available, so who would decide which one gets treatment? The people in power would get the best health care and those who were not in power would have to make do with the rest. All the best equipment and medicines would be transferred to those hospitals with the result of people dieing, when they could have been saved. Is this fair, well if you are a family member of one of the rulers then it would seem fair to you? Who would decide?
It is impossible to make everyone just like everyone else. If you do that then the smart people would have to acts less intelligent, while the less intelligent would be responsible for more than they can handle. How do you change everyone’s looks, say goodbye to beauty; everyone would look just the same. If a government had this power then they would make all redheads and all blondes dye their hair black or brunette. What happens to those with perfect vision? Most people don’t have perfect vision, it deteriorates with time and eventually some people won’t be able to get it corrected to 20/20. So what do you plan on doing? Do you make everyone wear glasses so their vision will all be downgraded or upgraded to the norm? What about the blind, or do you just kill them all off?
- What if all competition was removed from society?
Again communism is the simple answer.
Another good answer is illustrated by the TV Show (PBS) Guns, Germs and Steel. The reason why most primitive societies haven't advanced as far as others is because they didn't need to. The pressures of their environment are less so they don't need to improve things. When all you have to do for breakfast is go outside and chuck a spear then why invent a supermarket, and all that is required to build it? Why bother to invent a brass spear or even a rock knife if you didn’t need it?
Competition forces advancements and development (as per Darwin's theory of Evolution). Without competition the species stagnates and eventually dies. Why run the race when you can’t win, why bother to enter the race at all? The points on Yahoo Answers don’t mean very much, but most people like to gather points for bragging rights. If there wasn’t a point system then why bother to answer any questions, or ask them? Competition is basic to what we do and how we live. Viruses compete against the body’s immune system. When your body defeats a virus then it keeps immunity to that virus for a very long time. Once you get Chicken Pox then you are immune to them. Without that competition you could get infected every single time you are exposed. The same is true in our society competition is needed to improve.
- What if technology became so advanced that it could read thoughts?
Once the technology exists then people will steal it and spread it, they will also refine it so that it can be used to get any thoughts. This is unavoidable.
Then you could say goodbye to any thought of privacy. The police would reduce crime, but if people really knew what other people thought about them then they would want to kill most of those folks. The result would be a society on the road to destruction, the increase in violence would absorb all the attention of the police, letting other problems fester and grow. Yes, it would be easy to catch the car thief, but if you are on you 23 domestic abuse call, with one spouse trying to kill another then the officer wouldn’t have time to go after the car thief.
With no privacy how can you have sex, could you do it in front of an audience? Could you go to sleep with someone watching you? What about your dreams, you can’t control all of them and someone can use the information in your dreams against you. What if you dreamed about liking a boy or a girl, but you didn’t really like them? What do you think would happen when the news of that dream got out? You would either be accused of having thoughts about a person that you don’t like, or being called a lesbian. Can you deal with that? Would you slap the person who read your mind, or just plot your revenge (probably with your own mind reading machine)?
What about all those nasty little thoughts that occur to us all from time to time? The act of speaking works as a censor so we don’t say or act on those thoughts. Thinking about beating someone isn’t illegal, but if they knew you were thinking that then they might turn around and beat on you. What if a priest just had a random thought that an altar boy looked good in his robes? Someone with a mind reading machine could charge him as being a pedophile.
How can you invent something unique, why bother? Someone else would just steal it. Competition would decrease; if a seller knows what a buyer is willing to pay for something then why bargain or bid for it, and no one would be able to buy something at a good deal. The seller would always make sure to know what his customer was willing to pay. Without any new inventions there would be no advancements in society, and a society that doesn't advance will perish.
-- Your 3 questions are all roots to a poorer society and one that would eventually destroy itself. All 3 questions center on competition.
0 You can try and remove competition by controlling every aspect of life, but no system is perfect, there will always be a shortage of supplies. This shortage will encourage corruption and people will compete to become more corrupt or to gain their own piece.
0 You can try to remove competition by making everyone equal; but that is impossible, unless you plan on killing those who can’t conform. You will have to downgrade the exceptional because there is a limit to how far you can upgrade everyone else.
0 You can try to remove competition by letting everyone know what everyone else is thinking, but that only leads to chaos.
Competition creates advancement, improvement and gain. Without it there is no incentive to do anything. The society is encouraged to run along at just the minimum levels, so any great test like a natural disaster has a strong chance of destroying that society. Eventually the society can only handle so much and it will crumble and die.

That might be fine if we might do it in truly lifestyles. Not simply the YA web page. But you fail to discover that this isn't a ultimate global and so it isn't a ultimate internet site. I am keen on the intense questions after which I become bored. So I seem for any individual to damage the ice and make me snigger. This is what you name infantile crap. You additionally ought to keep in mind that your mentality is also extra mature that others.....and that is now not the teens on my own. I for my part believe that because you expressed your opinion on the truth that you might like YA to difference and do away with the dull crap as you name it. Well your being a hypocrite as good. Now that is a disgrace. Maybe you'll be an excessively strict and insensitive grandparent, if now not a mum or dad already.

yep, sounds like it is straight out of 1984.
Some countries, like North Korea have that now, sans the technology reading thoughts.
What do I think of that?
Without any freedom whatsoever, what would be the point? You would be nothing more than a robot that bleeds.
Sounds pretty stinky to me.
We complain so much in this country, but good grief, look at the alternative.
We are blessed, and we have no idea how much.

Individuality would be extinct. We would all be like little robots, looking, sounding, acting, talking, living like one another. Why would there be a need for competition anyway when we would all be the same? What would we have to compete for? Nothing, everything would be controlled for us. If the government controlled everything to do with our beings then they would have no need to be able to read thoughts. Our thoughts would be their own and they would already know them.

In other words...we are screwed.

Then you would have a totalitarian regime, not communism. Me, I'd be doing the best I could to get the heck out of there.
Any student of political systems who knows anything about what Communism really is knows that what the USSR, China and Cuba practice is not communism.

1) Then no one would have a free will anymore. No one would be able to think for themselves.
2) Then no one would even try. People need competition for encouragement.
3) Then no one would get away with anything anymore.
