Can you answer this question about Deltora Quest?

I'm reading the series, and I'm on the Dragon books now. (And yes, I'm an adult! But my daughter loved the books so I got hooked on them too!)

Anyway, my daughter and I cannot figure out what happened to Leif's father. He was alive at the end of the first set of books ("Return to Del") But then he was gone in the Shadowland books and Leif was king. I don't recall any mention of his father's death.

Please let me know if you remember what happened to him. Thanks!

When Lief and his companions challenged the Guardian of the Diamond, the Guardian faked his name as "Endon" so that those who passed his challenges would be shocked and tricked into believing the real king had abandoned Deltora. Fortunately the three companions learn the truth and when they return to Del and drive away the Shadow Lord, it is revealed that Endon and Jarred switched places to hide Endon and his family. Sadly, Endon dies before he can see his son rule wisely over the people.♥
