Most people are right handed (so by definition, they tend to use their right hand more often), and it is easier and a shorter travel for the right hand if a right handed person hangs the bag on the right shoulder.

So, right away I thought, "because most people are right handed." Except that I am right handed and I usually carry mine on my left shoulder.
Why do most people wear their watch on their left wrist? Supposedly it's because they are right handed. But I wear my watch on my right hand.
So maybe I'm the abnormality and it IS because most people are right handed.
And while we're on that subject... Why ARE most people right handed???
