I never heard of anyone sending thank you cards. But I dont think anything is wrong with that. Its a nice thing to do letting people know you appreciate them being there for you in such a hard time in your life. You dont have to send cards because your friends know its hard for you right now and your still mourning. Basically its up to you. Hope that answered your question.

You definitely send a thank you card to everyone who helped you, gave a gift of money or flowers but not to those who only sent a card or attended the Memorial service. (did you get a sign-in book from the funeral home? Most directors will place one in the room for mourners to sign and leave their addresses for the family). If there were only a very few people who came to the service and you know them, it's a mark of good breeding to thank them with a card, regardless, and wouldn't require a great effort to do so. Please accept my condolences on the death of your father.

Usually you only need to send thank-yous if people gave flowers or a gift of money. (Better wording--people who send a card do not expect a thank-you.) Having said that, it certainly doesn't hurt to send a thank-you to those who sent a card. Sometimes the family will even enclose a memory card of the deceased (from the funeral home) as a memento. Do what you feel is proper. Sorry about your loss.

If I was really touched by the cards yes, I would send a thank you card and tell my friends that I really appreciated the card they sent, during a difficult time. My Mom always says you're not expected to send thank you notes for cards but I always do anyway, but that 's just the way I feel about it...

my father also just passed 3 weeks ago today, and alot of people came to the funeral home...so we just sent thank you cards to those who sent flowers/gifts/food/donations , then we are going to put a thank you in our towns newspaper to thank those all who came to the funeral home and for those who sent sympathy cards. the last thing you probabally feel like doing right now is writing out thank you card after thank you card...believe me, people understand if they dont get a personal thank you note

i mean if u don't they should understand it and be nice enough to understand that you can't respond for some reason.
and if u do they'll be thankful that u appreciate their care.
