My daughter is 6 months old and has been eating baby food since 4 months, as recommended by her pediatrician. When is it time to introduce step 2 babyfood?

Step 2 foods are thicker in consistancy, but have little in the way of chunks to chew. Still, the thick consistancy allows them to learn about chewing and swallowing, as opposed to "drinking" the food.

The recommendation for switching is 6 months (from the charting I have seen). 8 - 10 months is when you will switch to step 3.

We switched our daughter to step 2 at 6 months, and allowed her to dictate when it was time for step 3. She got bored with the step 2's rather quickly, not to mention she cut her teeth rather early. So she went to step 3 around 8 months. From there, we worked in the soft regular foods in with the step 3 foods. And when your daughter is fine with step 3, Gerber has a wonderful toddler line, with softer foods that are cut into chunks so the little one can learn to feed themselves. Our daughter loves them, and we do, too!

Good luck!! Check out gerber.com and they have a chart (I believe) that will better explain the steps and how they work.

all three of my kids started eating step 2 baby food by the time they were 5 months old. It just depends on the child like is the step ones filling her up with one jar, is she starting to try chewing, I started introducing each step by mixing the two steps together. usually you should start with introducing the fruits first, it does make it a little easier. good luck with her!

Good grief, step one just refers to the size of the bottle/portion in most cases! My six month old boy eats EVERYTHING, even fresh avacado, non-baby-food applesauce, babyfood meat, all veggies, thick cereal . . . . You should be way into "step 2 " already, if not step three.

Step 2 is fine for a six month old, but wait to get the baby food with bits of food in it until she's got more teeth. She could choke on it now.

if she is dealing with the step 1 food well then you can try her with the next step.....initially because of the food being more coarser she will probably gag a little...its a normal reflex that they have so dont panic.....not much changes nutritionally its just generally the texture to help them start chewing..
