Wow you are brave, with less than 50 days to write it, find actors, rehearse memorize, and get it "in the can"

I suggest you knock off an already accepted piece,,, no offense.

In one act, you could do original, and even a very small cast in speaking parts to keep from complicating things, still using a larger group as extras, stage fillers.

Without knowing the age level/class level, audience, I'd suggest something contemporary. Certainly plays such as Christmas Carol have to be a bit more involved than one act.

Also I suggest something of a secular nature rather than a specific religious subject not knowing the players or audience.

It would seem that you'd do well to be light hearted, given the global issues, and perhaps add, at the end, some wishes for things like peace, harmony, brotherhood, etc.

If I was writing, producing, directing, and offering a one act piece, I think I'd do a scene, in a tent or group of tents, with service people sitting around a barrel fire, on Christmas eve, each reading a letter from home, discussing them maybe, or NOT, but sharing an honest, open, non offensive collection of monologues.

I wish you well, and to all, blessed holidays.

The Christmas tree that wasn't.

A place of no Christmas trees. Actually no trees at all. A person decides the children should become the Christmas tree, its ornaments, and light's. Magically, when the tree is done there is a blackout and when the lights come up there are presents beneath the tree and smaller children come out on stage to get them.

[This is an outline, not a complete play. You will have to fill in dialogue and blocking.]

Do an adaptation of the O Henry story The Gift of the Maji. It's short and it's right in the spirit of Christmas.
