There is a slight chance that I am pregnant, (won't know for 2 weeks) and I am wondering if drinking caffeine is dangerous within the earliest stages of conception. I don't drink coffee or tea, but I drink a lot of Dr. Pepper. I'm having a hard time finding research, but I just feel like perhaps caffeine would do some kind of damage during the formation of the brain and all the other early developments. Anyone know??

I read an article in Fit Pregnancy, or some other equally reputable publication, that says that large amounts of caffeine is bad, but smaller amounts can actually be good for you and the baby. One 12 oz soda or one 8oz cup of coffee per day should be the right amount. Anything more than that and I would have to agree with everyone else here. The motto of "all things in moderation" applies here as well. I wish I could remember where I read this article. I wrote a 20 page research paper on Prenatal Care, so I am well versed, although not personally experienced, with this.

Good luck and Congrats!

Truthfully, caffeine has not been scientifically proven to cause problems unless consumed in vast quantities. Any pregnancy book out there tells you that you can have up to 4 cups of coffee a day and still be within safe limits. Caffeine is in the category "A" listing of drugs which translates to=years of study proves that it is a safe drug to consume while pregnant. I am pregnant and although I gave up my morning cup of Joe, I have a caffeinated soda or two on occasion. You don't have to worry. There are women out there who drank too much on an evening or even smoked pot before realizing they were pregnant and doctors will tell them that nothing they did so early will make any difference but to stop now. You can still enjoy your Dr. Pepper in moderation! Best wishes.

Well I am no saint either. I have a Starbucks Maple Latte every morning before I go to work. Im 34 weeks and hardley get any sleep at all at night. Id be a wreak without that extra lil push in the morning! Ive read that you can have like up to 6 cans of soda a day or something ridiculos like that with out it effecting the baby. but i dont remember where i read that. Just search on the internt. I love babycenter.com i have had so many questions and concerns answered by that site! and it tells you wekkly updates of how your baby is doing! Enjoy, and dont stress too much. Follow this simple rule, Everything in Moderation. (except of course cigs, drugs and alcohol...which ive even read that an occasinal glass of wine will do no harm to the baby, but best to stay away all together!)

i'm no longer a clinical specialist or a specialist, or possibly a legal man or woman, yet I do examine a pay interest plenty. My mom is a heavy espresso drinker and has been when you consider that she develop into about 20. She's had 2 babies babies. She did have issues getting pregnant with my previous due sister, notwithstanding the clinical specialist by no skill stated some thing about caffein being the proglem (granted that develop into 25 years in the past). She remarried and had no situation getting pregnant with me. i have examine that that's cautioned to offer up ingesting caffeine once you're extremely pregnant, yet by no skill if you attempt to get there. (i'm a caffeine addict myself and that i elect to do study on what that's doing to my body, hehe). It probable has as a lot to do including your husband and his "swimmers" because it does including your espresso ingesting. God basically would not elect you getting pregnant yet. a even as will come. strong success and that i PRAY you've A healthful infant!

My OB/GYN advised that I cut back on caffeine, if not eliminate it altogether. It has only been known to cause problems in excessive amounts, but why risk it? The main problem with it is not in the formation of your developing fetus, but in your own dehydration. As little as a 12 ounce cup in the morning can really dry you out. So I wouldn't worry about it if you are drinking lots of water, but I certainly wouldn't have more than a cup at most. Good luck! :)

I have always drank 2 cups of coffee per day...even during my pregnancy...As for Dr. Pepper, it isn't the caffine I'd be concerned about..it is the fact that it is so totally not healthy at all. At least with coffee it can be diluted with milk (or ice cream YUM) but soda? Besides it's not that great for your stomach anyway. Next time you clean your toilet do so with some Dr. Pepper, soda eats away the grime in the toilet very well, even rust stains. That's what it does to your stomach.

Most doctors and experts agree, caffeine is bad all throughout pregnancy. However, newer studies show that the caffeine in about five cups of coffee a day is how much it would take to have an effect.

About a cup of coffee a day (a few days, probably throughout the month) is said to be "okay" but it's one of those things that doctors aren't too sure of....so they suggest avoiding it.

I know Dr. Pepper makes caffeine-free soda. Have you tried it?

This is what my doc told me.... I need to drink 4 quarts of fluid daily, 1 quart can be soda or juice or whatever I want (no booze). Cutting back on caffiene is a good thing, but some won't hurt.... I cannot live without Mountain Dew.

I drank mountain dew (the worst you can drink) the whole 9 months and it didn't affect my baby. But I'm not condoning that. Limit your caffiene intake the best you can.

(I actually had cut down on my caffiene intake from 24 cans of mountain dew a day to 2 cans a day. So that was a MAJOR cut down).
