just talking as a FEMA rep. sorry to hear that your being worked on in this way but think about it as you were the one wearing the other shoes, if you had 1/2 interest in a piece of real-estate owned by your ex-spouse and you would be trying the same and think it was within your right to do so.

this isn't a uncommon thing with real-estate, i have seen family members that have paid off the family farm alone and when trying to sell the farm another 1/2 brother comes and pays his half to make the real-estate theirs and as you know what the real-estate market is like today and will walk away with his rewards. unless your divorce had anything within it that states who gets what your limited to what by law he can do.

if the property was joint owed before and during katrina then i would have to say yes unless there is something in writing and what is the big deal with this anyway. if it were u as a woman u would want the same thing, but because it is a man he is not entitled, welcome to equal rights.

If your ex was a co owner at the time of Katrina she is entitled to it. You are seeing an attorney any way you should follow his advise.
