Do you determine what is morally right or wrong based on religion, philosophy, your own ideas? What are the guiding principles?

For clarification: I'm not asking others to tell me what I should do. I'm genuinely curious about how other people make this determination.

I only have one rule in my system of morality, and all details extend naturally from it: Do not hurt people intentionally or knowingly. ("People" includes me)

The consequences of my actions. If I do something that hurts or upsets another and I see that it hurts or upsets them, then I know that it is the wrong thing to do. Also, if I don't want to have it done to me, then I know for sure that it is the wrong thing to do to another.

I depend on my own moral baseline, or opinions I suppose, to determine my sense of morality. I am the one who has to live with it. I do not cheat, I do not deliberately hurt another, I do provide food to people who need it, I do help heal a wounded soul when I can. I believe we all need to take a walk in each other's shoes and I try to do that daily. I gues it is a 'do on to others as you would have them do on to you' thing. There is only one exception, I don't want any publicity or credit or acknowledgement from anyone when I can help out. That's its own reward.

If you read a book about Ethics it should answer all your questions. It will show you what is right for you as a person. Morality is not about sex, it's about how you live your life and how you relate to other people. How you think and how you act. Good luck.

I base mine on God's word and the law of the land. I try to live my life based on principals in the Bible, whether it be finances, health, relationships with others, respecting authority, or maintaining my belongings.
But I also look to our laws. If it says "do not feed the bears" then I'm not going to feed the bears.

I use Abraham Lincoln's system. "When I do good I feel good and when I do bad I feel bad, and that is my religion."
