Would you want to admit to your parents that you have cheated on your test to pass your math class? Would you want to tell your employers that you have used marijuana during high school?

Yes America has done a lot of bad things including condoning racism, the persecution of Native Americans, and ect.
What you forget to mention is that we aren't all bad.

USA has bailed Europe out of two World Wars. After the Second WW the Marshall Plan worked particularly well.

Freed Iraq's Kurds from genocide by gassing and are trying to spread democracy, which it appears that the people want to kill us, and that isn't what you'd usually expect from someone you'd freed, so how can you blame us for trying?

USA set up Reconstruction to help Blacks after slavery it was only after democracy was fully fledged again that Southern Whites voted in Jim Crow Laws.

Continues to provide aid to African countries for AIDS drugs.

Just so you know I do think the USA is totally wrong on the environment, there are vast alternatives that we could be implementing. Also Europe's past ain't none too perty either. (If this sounds like bad English I'm sorry it's a common expression in the state of South Dakota) You do have some good points.
God Bless and Have a good day

First- you should check your facts, a lot of these are based a little on truth but exaggerated, try looking at history textbooks instead of propaganda materials to get your information.

To answer your bigger question I think most Americans are aware that we have a lot of dirt in our history- but what country does not? We still can be proud of the things which we have accomplished, and we have righted, and are righting, many of the wrongs of our past.

In contrast, some of the more "progressive" nations of the world, have in their general population levels of racism and sexism that would never survive in the USA- I have traveled extensively in Europe and have witnessed this for myself.

If America was such a terrible place we would not have so many people trying to get here!

I have traveled the world a lot and have done nothing but gain in appreciation for what we have here. I recommend you ask American immigrants from your country (assuming here you are not an American) what they think about this place, and why they don't go back to their birth home- they just might enlighten you about why Americans are not wallowing in guilt as the rest of the world seems to think we should be.

America does not want to admit their terrible history because they don't want to believe it. American can fall into the false sense of security that their leaders can never do wrong. Unfortunately, most every country is not very different in this aspect. You didn't hear Saddam plead guilty, did you? Some Germans deny the holocaust....... In some circumstances, countries or their people are too ashamed to believe the truth.
Nonetheless, America is a top offender, no doubt , but this is not just an American problem.

by the way, I'm Canadian.

We won't admit it for a number of reasons:

1. We started off violent and hyprocriticaMF We committed genocide on the Native Americans and imported Africans as slaves.

2. We think we are the chosen ones and that the rules that apply to other nations don't do to ours. We've been fed the rot that America is the greatest country on Earth and that people are dying to get here.

3. Our media is extremely parochial and nationalistic and most Americans have no idea about all the statements above and our complicity in it.

Why not other nations want to admit their wrong doings? How about the African-Americans apologizing for all the crimes they've committed against Whites?
