Okay - it makes sense that over the years that early humans may have trekked many thousands of miles to populate other land masses. My question is how did they get on those little islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean thousands of miles from any land mass?

They followed the tides. They followed birds (the birds would know where land was). They followed trails of vegetation that would get tossed into the ocean during storms.

Just because they were primitive by today's standards, it doesn't mean they were dumb.

well you may also be one to believe that some of the land masses were once much much larger and/or closer than what they are now. the people that are native to these lands were probably once much closer to a larger country/continent and could swim out there. Maybe even that land wasn't an island at all and the people living in the region slowly grew apart for the rest of the people on that larger land.

My ancestors knew that the world was round. They knew that there were land masses of various sizes around the globe. They could navigate almost perfectly with the stars. They watched birds to detect the direction of land, along with the color of the sea, its smell, and the air and cloud formations. They had ships that were very reliable. They were incredibly courageous and intelligent. That's how.

Well, in the beginning most of the islands weren't separated from each other. The earth's crust then separated forming thousands of islands. This is how the people got separated to different islands.
