I am moving from San Francisco to North Carolina's eastern region. I have estimated $800 for U-haul daily fee (based on three days time), mileage and gas assuming I rent the smallest truck they have. Is this figure close or should I budget more money? I have the food and lodging part under control. Thanks for your help.

The $800 estimate is for the three-day trip total excluding motels and food.

Gas would be hard to judge because you'd have to know the prices of gas every where you were going but $800.00 a day sounds like PLENTY....to me, GOOD LUCK! Have a safe trip.....

That's a great starting mileage. Just be sure it's not too much, particularly if you're not experienced in running. You might want to start off with less mileage and work up to that(or beyond). Good luck.

According to U-Haul's website, renting the 10 foot "apartment" truck one-way from SF to Raleigh, NC is $3,440, just to rent the truck.

The truck has a 35 gallon tank and gets 12 miles to the gallon, so, at $2.25 a gallon for gas (an estimate), you are also looking at $6,446.25 for gas (2865 miles).

I'd say your estimate is WAY off. Sorry.

You can use the Fuel Cost Calculator on U-Pack's website (www.upack.com/about/truck-ren... Just plug in where you are moving from and to and the calculator will estimate the cost based on the current national fuel average.

You can also get a price quote for using U-Pack for your long-distance move. With this service, U-Pack provides the moving truck and does the driving, while you are responsible for packing, loading and unloading. Fuel charges, taxes, tolls and driver's fees are included in the price.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions (I work for U-Pack).

Good Luck!

it's about 2900 miles at 20 mpg thats about $300. for gas at 2 buck a gal. and another $750 @ 25 cents a mile so it'll be about $1050. more or less based on mileage fee and gas mileage plus the daily rental
