Answers says....
He is the only independent member of the House, and is one of very few self-described democratic socialists elected to federal office in the United States in recent times. Sanders is currently serving his eighth two-year term, and is giving up his House seat to pursue the open Senate seat to be vacated by the retiring Jim Jeffords in the 2006 Senate election in Vermont.

Socialism is an ECONOMIC term. It is the CONTROL of the means of production by government. Most socialist societies say they promote the good of the society over the good of the individual.

But when you lose individual rights, you lose ALL rights. You become nothing more than a number whos purpose is to satisfy the needs of the state. Does Vermont really support this?

Bernie has always stood for the people. He votes in accordance with the Constitution and what the people in Vermont ask for.

I've had dealings with Bernie and he is one of the nicest guys out there. Bernie is one of the only politicians I know of who hired buses to take elderly people up to Canada in order to get medications they needed but could not afford down here.

Bernie is an independent, listens to the people and not any particular party, and didn't have to go spend $6 million hoping to buy Vermont votes like Tarrant.

I found Tarrant's mud-slinging campaign that started back in the spring to be juvenile and rather scary. Tarrant said he would go to Washington to cut wasteful spending, yet he spent $6 million on a campaign that he vowed he would win. Wonder if he's off licking his wounds...

Bernie Sanders did win the Seante race in Vermont. He's been in the House since 1990.

He's very popular in Vermont; I don't see any Clinton connection. Clinton is anything but socialist - she's been a corporate lapdog since day one.

all of us who calls Hillary Clinton a "socialist" or "communist" is the two thoroughly unaware of the meaning of those words, or a liar, or the two. In different words, a Republican. I from time to time ask your self approximately rightwingers who're so far off the deep end that all human beings, alongside with moderates and different rightwingers seem "socialist" via assessment.
