Slightly embarrassed. My husband does all the time, when he's having problems, which is our term for a depression. He's diagnosed with clinical depression, and SAD, which makes him kind of hard to live with. If he doesn't calm down pretty quickly, I get mad - at him, and tell him in very short, simple words, to knock it off. It usually works.

I back up slowly, look at my watch and then pretend I don't know them. If there is no escape...I stand very still in the hopes that I will at that very moment be rendered invisible...and since that never works, I usually just smile and start speaking in gibberese to whomever will listen.
