My neighboors daughter is pregnant & was thinking of abortion. I have been trying to talk her in adoption. She has been concerned w/ the price of having the baby. She has BCBS, it covers 90% of pregnancy she would I guess be considered low income, would she be able to get state funded insurance to cover the pregnancy? All the adoption agencies I have contacted will not agree to pick up the remander of the medicall bills unless she finds adoptive parents that are willing to do so & will only pay those after adoption is complete. Any help please

Have her apply for pregnant women medicaid, go to your states website and look it under, it will cover her entire pregnancy, the hospital bills, the doctor visits, ultrasounds, vitamins etc. There are lots of things availabe for pregnant women who are struggling. Good Luck! besides u dont have to pay up front to deliver the baby, there are payment plans. even if she didnt pay them it wouldnt affect her credit..

I checked into maternity coverage when I was shopping for an individual policy. Basically you have to have maternity coverage for one year before you can start using it. So it won't do you any good to get it now. Try medicaid like another poster said, or you can get a midwife who will do your prenatal care and deliver your baby in your home for $2000-$3000 (that includes the prenatal visits). Or you can negotiate with the hospital ahead of time, if you pre-pay they will often let you negotiate a lower price. Contact WIC (Women Infants and Children program) they may also have some resources for you. Also I think Planned Parenthood offers prenatal care on a sliding fee scale.

Talk to some people who are looking to adopt a child, and discuss the situation with them. If they are willing to pick up the costs, then you can go through with the adoption agency.

Good luck to you and the daughter.

Private adoption. I have a friend who would be more than happy to adopt a healthy baby, any race. She's looking for a private adoption. There are many many couples out there looking to adopt that are also willing to pay the extra medical bills.

This is a very sad situation.

The same people who often oppose abortion then vehemently oppose universal health care, so that people such as the lady you described have few good choices.

Nobody *wants* to have an abortion. But sometimes the society we live in forces their hand.

Best of luck to all.
