I have developed a shoulder problem that does not alow me any weight pulling on it. I've already purchased the guitar. An acoustic/electric Gibson.

you can. and not just slide, either. for some inspiration, check out jeff healy. this awesome blues-rocker plays 90% of his music that way. i recommend 'see the light' & 'hell to pay' albums. some videos of him using this technique should be available. you can also see him in the movie 'roadhouse'.

Yep. Jeff Healey plays guitar this way, and not just slide. It will take a bit of ingenuity on your part - there are very few guides to playing this way. But it can be done.

Sure you can. The Edge (from U2) plays that way; so does Steve Howe (from Yes). All you need is a slide (glass ones sound better to me, but there are also metal ones...try 'em both and see what you like). You may also have to adjust your pickups to prevent fuzzing (unless you -like- fuzz, that is!). Good luck.
