Thanks for all your rude comment about my spelling! I'm only doing a project for school on publishing and was looking for other people's opinion opposed to mine that I put on my project. Sorry to upset some people, gosh!

Once you have a good grasp on spelling and grammar, Writer's Market would be an invaluable resource to you! If you can't afford the latest edition, your local library may have a copy of a previous one. Each agent and publisher has varying submission guidelines, and you need to follow these guidelines precisely. You should also break the habit of using r and 2 as abbreviations. It makes you seem unprofessional and will cause others to not take you seriously.

More than likely, you will need to find an agent first. Many reputable publishers do not even consider unagented or unsolicited work. Watch out for bogus agents, of which there are many. These agents will ask you for some type of reading, submission, or representation fees. A reputable agent will never charge any upfront fees! They make money by selling your book, not by collecting ridiculous fees!

In your search, also be wary of vanity presses. Any Tom, Dick, or Harry can pay to publish their work through a vanity press. That means the overall quality of such books is way below most people's standards, and most writers who go this route find it impossible to convince bookstores to carry their books. True, you can have such books listed on Amazon, but who is going to buy a book they've never heard of from an author they've never heard of? Much less a book that is filled with spelling and grammatical errors because it has not been professionally edited!

You can also check out http://www.absolutewrite.com/ for helpful articles that may be of interest to you. They also have a password protected critique board and a message board where you can ask questions and get answers from experienced writers. Good luck!

Each publisher is slightly different but you need to get a book on publishing. You need to write a query letter that gets sent out to publishers, but you can not send the book to them. Certain publishers only publish certain types of books so you would not even bother with them. There is a good bit of research you will need to do first.

Try Writer's Market. It's a book updated annually that lists publishers and their needs, and tips on getting published. Also talk to friends and local writers who have published and know a bit about the publishing world.

Go to a library or book store and find a similar book to the one you have
written. The publisher's address will be in the front of the book. Send
them a copy of your book, in an envelope. Enclose a cover letter asking
them to please read your book. eg. I am enclosing a copy of my book.....
in the hope that you would be interested in publishing it. Give them
your address. etc. Do not expect your manuscript back. Do expect an
answer. I have a pile of rejection letters. I wish you luck. Keep at it.

Writers Market 2007 Edition is out now.

It's the best place to start if you are just beginning. It has a list of pulishers and their requirements for queries.
