I always thought that you said a hour because hour starts with a consanant, but on word it says I should use an hour...could someone please help me???

you would say 'an' hour because in this crazy language, "an" precedes words that begin with vowel sounds...and since the "h" in hour is silent, it sounds like the vowels "ou", kind of like you would san an herb instead of a herb here in the US

It is alright that hour starts with the letter "h",which is not a vowel.but the reason behind adding "an" with hour is that while pronouncing "hour",we pronounce it as "Our",just like any other word starting with a vowel.Similiar examples are.an honest officer.an M.A., an M.P., etc.

i always say "an hour" because it's pronounced "our" and by saying "a hour" it just throws me off...i don't know for sure what the correct answer is ... lol. very good question. haha. :-)

I've never heard anyone say "A hour". When an "h" is silent, you use "an" just as you would with a vowel.

It's 'an hour'. It's one of those exceptions we like to throw in the english language. Really it's just how we actually say it being, for once, carried over to how it is spelled.
