Legal Age In Singapore

Singapore law defines a person below the age of 14 years as a 'child' and a person below the age of 16 years but over 14 years as a 'young person'. The Juvenile Courts usually assumes jurisdiction over such persons when they are prosecuted for crimes or are otherwise involved with the law. Ergo, one is considered to not be a minor once he/she turns 16 years old.

However, Singapore's age of suffrage is 21 years old. So one can argue that a person is a 'minor' until he/she reaches 21 years old.

Other examples include: Legal driving age (18 yrs old), Legal age to watch R21 rated movies (21 yrs old), Minimum age to be enlisted into National Service (16 years old), Legal age to smoke (18 yrs old).

In short, the definition of a 'minor' in Singapore would depend on what context you are referring to.
