Do shy people display specific mannerisms or give off non-verbal clues that tell us they're shy?

I think shy people tend to only talk when they are spoken to first. They avoid eye contact, and probably look uncomfortable if they are in a situation where they don't know many people. I'm extremely shy (around people I don't know), and I've been told that I come off "mean" and act like I'm "better than everyone else" when really, I just can't get the courage up to talk to anyone!

They are quiet, they don't look at you when you get too close. They might seem like as*holes if you try to talk to them, but some shy people are just uncomfortable, and don't know what to say. Shy people take a long time to climatize to a new person, and any kind of aggressiveness on your part will make it take much longer.

Im a shy person myself so Im usually self absorbed. when everyones talking im non verbal or when Im by myself I feel I have room to say something. It sounds weird but when your shy, It feels like you dont want people to react the way your thinking theyll react but they do it anyway.

They have a hard time looking you in the eye and they might keep their hands in their pockets all the time. They look down a lot.
