Teachers will get paid more when others stop looking at us as less than professionals. People don't realize that teachers are highly educated and almost all public school teachers have Masters degrees plus more. We may have more days off than those in the business world but that isn't our fault, it is the district calendar. As for getting the summer's off, people don't know that our salaries are prorated so that we get some cash in the summer. Until parents and politicians start to see that there is NOTHING more important than educating the youth of America we will always get paid in chickens and apples like in the old days.

The rate of pay is not really lower than for anyone else - it is the hours worked that are not enough to bring home the bacon. All teachers should work from 8am till 5 pm. Instead of doing work at home (which should be abolished with homework) they would do it in paid times. Alot of teachers say parents would leave kids there. Well make rules they have to be gone 3.10pm or welfare is called to pick them up. Don't have school holidays off - use the time for preparation and marking etc.

The only way a teacher will get paid more is if there is a great shortage of teachers. This is what happened when there was a shortage of nurses. I remember when teachers made more money that the nurses. Now the nurses make almost double what teachers do and it's because of the shortage.
