When people think of black people, they think about the majority of blacks they have seen in person or in the media: they are ghetto, loud, rude, use slang, act hard, etc.
These are the images that are out there in the mainstream. These are the people that some see when they go to the mall or to the movies. They see blacks being loud and talking on the cell while people are trying to watch the movie. They see blacks speaking heavy ghetto slang and wearing clothing that hangs below their butts.
When they see a black who does not fit that stereotype, they see that as an except and not as the norm. They see that as a black, trying not to be "black". They have a hard time understanding that there are different classes and types of blacks and that being black does not mean just acting one type of way. They just see someone not following the norm or trying to be "white".

People stereotype base on fear, jealousy, and just plain stupidity. They're are stereotypes for all types of women and men in every race. The key is not to listen and base your facts on one negative person or experience. And Jasmine please don't believe the guy that said 70% black women are single. He had racist and generalized links and they were stereotypical too. The number is around 40% and they often don't count black women that are in a long term relationships(With black, white, asian, etc men),divorced, widowed, are gay and just plain want to be single for numerous amounts of reason.

Yeah, some people are just like this. They will stereotype any race, color, religion, class and so on. There isn't much you can do about it unfortunately. You seem like a nice person. I think the people who are saying those things to you are jealous or just mean. In any case, don't let them bring you down to there level. Just ignore it and be proud of who you are. Everyone is unique in their own way. Don't be a part of carring on thier negativity. Life is too short to spend time trying to prove anything to people who choose to act like that.

You're buying into the stereotype yourself with your question......you don't dress Black...you talk white...what is that....you should take that as an insult.....not a compliment.
You need to broaden your outlook and check out the 75% of Blacks that don't fit in that little box.

It's sad these stereotypes still exist. The best we can do is try to educate those around us, and hope they will abandon their wrong ways of thinking once they see how ignorant they are. I like to maintain hope in humanity by thinking most people are just ignorant rather than malicious.
Of course another option is to just find new friends who are more enlightened in their thinking. Good luck and don't let people keep you down.

That's really bad. I think it's because there are a lot of blacks who act like you described. But people shouldn't think that just because someone acts like that that all black people are bad, or all the other things you said. It's nor right to stereotype, but i guess you just have to show that you're not part of the "ghetto, loud" group of black people, and just be yourself, and if people don't like it, then whatever.

A lot of black people I've met believe that because I'm a white man from Georgia who likes country music that I must also be a racist. It is not true, it's wrong for me to be judged like that, but I can't worry about someone Else's ignorance.

Because stereotypes are so often accurate. The "I know a guy" defense doesn't prove anything. The one guy you know (or are) doesn't mean that the million others that do adhere to a stereotype don't count. It's more ignorant to ignore the fact than accept it.
