When you empty the recycle bin, the files are not actually deleted. Instead, the space where the files occupy on the hard drive is marked as free to use. It is like a VHS tape. You don't actually delete anything until you record something over it. So, there is a good chance you can recover them. There are two software programs, both free, which can help. They are Free Undelete and Restoration. I heard about both through PC World Magazine. I have used Free Undelete and is very easy to use. I haven't tried Restoration.

1. Free Undelete (http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/)
2. Restoration (http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html)
