I have just purchased a new monitor( samsung flat 17"). my computer is custom. it worked fine 2 months ago, went in dry storage, and when I hook it all up...the signal code won't detect or work. I have cleaned and reseated the card(Nvidia bloody monster 4, Apollo graphics AGP card). I don't want to pay the "GEEKS" $70 to look at it if there is a fix out there I am missing...please help!!!

I should add that the monitor does work off another tower, and the other monitor shows the same "check signal cable" request. i did buy and try a PCI Nvidia 5500 card to no avail. what else can I try?

A couple of troubleshooting questions:

Have you tried your old monitor on the AGP? It's possible that it could be something wrong with your new monitor. Hook up the old monitor and make sure the Nvidia is working okay.

Is this a MoBo with built in video and you added a AGP card? If so try using the video conn on the MoBo and see if your new monitor is working with that hook up. It could be the AGP.

The other possibility is the cable. If your new monitor came with both a Digital and an Analog cable try them both if your AGP and/or MoBo supports both. Many times all you have is the option to use the Analog cable (especially with older PC's).

Good luck figuring this out.

I just had the same issue, moved computer into storage and when I plugged the unit in no video, I am thinking Power Supply died in storage, how old was your customized computer? I will know what my fix will be tomorrow, i will update you.

You might need to reinstall the drivers for the monitor.
If you don't have the driver you may get it from the manufacturers
website. Worth a try.

you have gotten already tried those steps yet that's what we would attempt first with reference to the PCI-e card: - examine the cable connection is pushed in each and every of ways into exhibit screen and card - in case you have yet another video cable attempt it - Open up your laptop suitable and re-seat the cardboard, ie, unscrew it pull it out and push it back in, screw in - flow the cardboard to a spare slot in case you have one and attempt that - placed the cardboard in yet another laptop and attempt it - if it fails right here you're able to nicely be particularly specific the cardboard itself is failing sturdy success

try a different monitor or try the new monitor on a different machine. the other thing to try is a different video card.

I just saved you $70+ because thats all the "Geeks" would have done.
