Yes you can get pregnant if you have an STD. You will find out you are pregnant the same way any one else does--by missing a period and taking a pregnancy test.

It depends on the type of STD. Herpes, if you have your first outbreak WHILE pregnant can be deadly for the baby, or cause mental retardation and/or blindness, hydrocephalus (Water on the brain. Also, if you have a Herpes out break while you are in labor you have to have a c-section or the baby could be born with it and also cause the above problems. Some STDs, if not caught for a long time can cause men/women to become sterile. With HPV, if you have growths at the time of delivery you might have to have a c-section (Laser removal is not recommended during pregnancy) because it can cause excessive bleeding. If you have an STD you need to speak with your OB/GYN about your options.

Yes. Most STD's do not interfere with pregnancy. However, genital warts or HPV can have growths that block the opening of the cervix and block out sperm trying to enter. Most times, if you have the growths removed, you should be able to get pregnant as normal. Also, you'll find out the same way everyone else does, missing a period, having signs and symptoms of a pregnancy, and a positive home pregnancy test.
