First put the car in reverse then start the Eng that way you won't grind the gears, but be careful the car could back up as soon as you start the Eng.The problem just maybe a simple clutch adjustment.A lot of the clutch shops will do a free adjustment for you.Check the yellow pages for the Clutch Shops.
I worked for Volvo for 23yrs.It could also be the clutch cable. The last thing it could be is the clutch itself. The clutch shop can let you know which one it is.

It doesn't sound good. Have you checked the filter? It would be a good idea to replace the filter and when you fill it back up with fluid, put some transmission treatment in it. Sounds like maybe a stuck valve in the valve body. You can probably buy a new valve body for 150 bucks or so. Or find one in a junk yard for a lot less. It's up to you. Good luck.

In a handbook shift motor vehicle, in case you shift into opposite jointly as going at any velocity, the vehicle won't shift into opposite. Becuz of ways the shifting of gears artwork, the opposite equipment can not have interaction, so in case you are attempting shifting into opposite with a handbook, you will merely pay attention incredibly LOUD GRINDING of the gears, and the vehicle will nevertheless roll forward. In a automatic transmission, an identical will take place, the two way, the replace fee isn't gonna be super :) --wealthy
