I'm trying to leave retail and work in the banking industry; However, a lot of bank jobs require that you have 1-2 years customer service experience. Would working in retail count? I interact with customers a lot.

yes, retail experience counts towards customer service experience. I have 12 years experience in retail and got a job in a bank and offered my retail experience as customer service which was accepted and I was offered a job which I still hold for about two years now.

i was a retail manager for a few years and i think customer service is the number one task of an associate so you do qualify as an applicant w/ customer service experience - good luck!

Yes, definitely. Working in retail you get the thick and thin of it all with customers. Seriously, it teaches you so many skills about dealing with different types of people, and their reactions to certain situations.

Absolutely. Just be honest on your application and in the interview. Describe your experience accurately. Don't make it sound like more than it was. But, yes, as an employer I'd hire someone with that sort of experience.

Yes, you can spin anything. It's not lying. It's called embellishing. Master it and you will go far.
