Right now they're just a far left party who play lip service to the evangelicals...

I'm hoping that the small government (libertarian) wing of the party takes over. What do you think will happen tonight and in the coming years? I don't think Washington will change much at all...

How is the Republican party not far left? Tell me how expanding the size of government the most any party has since the "great society" is not far left?

Common sense: Are you in tune? I don't listen to what the talking heads (and that includes the radio, for those of you who think that I'm one of those people) tells me to think.

The Libertarian voters were part of the coalition that put Reagan in power. They supported the "contract with America".

I won't go point for point into this, but both parties are far left. Republicans are more center right on social issues (I consider myself pretty far to the left on social issues), they play more lip service to the evangelicals than anything. Anyone who thinks that the right wingers have been in control in Washington all these years are sadly mistaken. The guys in power are all Neocons....

No, that is if the poll I saw was true. Apparently about 60% of the people voting Democrat are doing so just for a change in congress and have no clue what the Dem platform is. People should be wanting to change to something, not just a jump into a hither and yon direction.

However, maby the republicans will take note that conservative Dems are the ones threatening them. And the Dems will see what it takes to win and they can abandon the fringe that has been hurting them.

I wouldn't waste my vote on any other party than the republicans or democrats. While you would be making a stmt, you wouldn't be voting for someone who has a real chance of winning. It is thought that if Nader hadn't run, the votes wasted on him would have gone democratic.

Without going into the issues (too many who are on here don't bother with issues anyway) I think it would be good for the Republicans to lose if for no other reason than the fact they have a tendency to become arrogant when in the majority. A little dose of reality would go a long way.
And Washington does change considerably depending upon who's in power. Each party has their own agenda & laws passed during an administration reflects party views; especially if the presidents own party is a majority in the senate & house.

No the libertarians will not be able to take over because of the 2 other dominating parties which is too bad because it seems both dems a reps are idiots. Another issue is the whole voting process. All the machines, computers and/or paper ballot options to vote are so screwed up so who knows if the vote that you made is the vote that you actually made. No wonder we have such screw ups in office. It very much angers me.

It may slap them back into reality. They're elected to serve the people not their own wallets.

BTW - Republican are far right. Democrats and far left.
