Jessee Jackson came up with the term. To me it's a dumb term I'd rather be called by my first name or American.

People who saw ebony skinned people from Africa and decided that since they lived in America now, they were African American. Although that term only applies to Africans who come to America. It does not apply to American blacks trying to get in touch with their roots. Since their families helped to found America and have been here for generations, they are as American as apple pie, and no longer able to hold the nationality of African.

I thought African American came in to being about the mid 1960s with the civil rights movement, black power, and black is beautiful
