Ok. He is a Sandinista. He was Nicaragua's president in the mid 80's and then into the 90's and he is a communist. I am from that country and I can tell you that is going to be a total mess with them in power. It is going to bring the economy down and not to mention the ppl are going to be ruled by that some waht dictator. He is similar to Castro and Chavez.

Omg, I feel so dumb now ... I was like, 'Is he related to Jeannie Ortega?' at first ^^"
But here you go ...
Jose Daniel Ortega Saavedra (born 11 November 1945) is the president-elect of Nicaragua and was President from 1985 to 1990, when he voluntarily relinquished power after losing the election to Violeta Barrios de Chamorro. He won the 2006 Presidential elections of November 5 [1]. For much of his life, he has been an important leader in the Sandinista National Liberation Front (Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional or FSLN).

Daniel Ortega along with his wife are from the Sandinista Movement a communist party supported at the time by Russia and Cuba in the late 1970's, 80's and up until 1990 when he was voted out and replaced by Violeta Chamorro. He was voted out by the majority. I might say he did not leave quietly. He participated in what was known then as the "Great Pinata" where he emptied bank accounts, stole cars from dealership and gave it to whomever wanted it - -usually the poor. Let people grab land from whomever they wanted. He also did this at the beginning of his rulership, throughout and at the very end leaving the country with a $1,200 billion dollar debt. Many said he is not the same person he was from the beginning. That is why the country was drained of its brain (investors, wealthy ones, doctors,) basicaly anyone that could afford to get out did leaving the poor and very poor behind. He has toned down his talks about Imperalistic government (USA) and no more fist talk anymore. He has promised to work closely with the US government and also to invite many to invest in the country infrastructure which is what the poor need there - jobs. I am Nicaraguan and I was one of the many that left the country. My parents chose to stay behind.

Well he used to be the president in Nicaragua and he's currently running for re-election. As far as what he's accomplished, I'm unsure.
